I promised this and I truely hope that I’m half way doing this right. I will need your feedback on this! This tutorial is for people that have a little bit of experience with macrame, since it doesn’t show how certain knots are made, although I did search through the internet, trying to find some tutorial videos and added them.
So let’s start with what I used:
- 3 cm wide hoop earrings I found on eBay with loops on the bottom. The loops make a nice effect, but are irrelevant for making these earrings
- 18 nude colored cords, each 40 cm long (it’s too much, but I stated before that I like working with longer cords)
- 2 grey cords, each about 25 cm long
- the cords are 0,5 mm S-Lon TEX210 cords
Of course you can use any color you like!
Add the 18 nude colored cords
Take the cord on each end and knot along it towards the middle, you should end up with 18 strings on each side.
Repeat step 2 to get two rows
Take your grey cords and add one on each side (you can see how it is done here). Do not connect the two grey cords in the middle
Make another row, continuing with the nude cords
With the cords in middle do a reverse double half hitch knots (this is a fantastic celtic inspired bracelet with tons of those knots)
Drop the two outside cords on each side, you won’t need them anymore. Then, with 14 strings left on each side, only using two cords at a time, make two double half hitch knots with the cord pairs.
Secure the new outside cord, you won’t need this one anymore and make another row. Now with 13 strings on each side.
Dropping the next three outside cords, make your final row on each side (10 strings left) and make one more double half hitch on each side of the middle part.
Now cut all your cords and secure the endings with a lighter. The back should look like this:
And then you are done with the first earring!
Make sure when making the second one that you know which side to work on, otherwise you end up with one backwards 😉
Thank you, as always, for reading and subscribing and please let me know if there is any way I can improve! Also, if you end up making these, show me! I want to see what color patterns or improvements you came up with!
And, also as always, the link to my shop. 🙂
